Harriet Ddungu is a registered Nurse, Midwife, and Infection Prevention and Control Nurse with over 30 years of dedicated service within the National Health Service (NHS). She has 19 years of specialised experience in Infection Prevention and Control, working across diverse healthcare settings including Acute, Primary Care Trusts (PCT), Mental Health, Community, and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG). Her extensive work in various trusts specialising in Mental Health and Community care has provided her with a profound understanding of the complexities inherent in each organisation.Harriet has actively participated in numerous research and innovation projects, the latest being the (Addenbrooke’s Air Disinfection Study (AAir DS), which was initiated in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This study focuses on improving air quality to enhance patient safety, reduce staff sickness, and minimise hospital-acquired infections in mental health settings. Conducted in partnership with an older patients’ ward, where most patients have been clinically diagnosed with dementia, the study aims to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 and other airborne infections, benefiting both service users and staff. Her commitment to advancing patient safety and staff wellbeing remains at the forefront of her professional endeavours.
