Professor Willem van Schaik
Director of the Institute of Microbiology and Infection, University of Birmingham
After his PhD research at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, he moved to the Pasteur Institute in Paris on an EMBO Long Term Fellowship. He then returned to the Netherlands to start his own group on antibiotic resistance and the gut microbiome at the University Medical Centre Utrecht. He moved to the University of Birmingham in 2017, where he was appointed as Professor of Microbiology and Infection.
